The Pleasure of a Puddle

Remember those days as a kid, when jumping in puddles was such fun? Okay, who am I kidding, jumping in puddles is still fun! And my Robins seem to think so too!

The other day, in the midst of a week with no rain and high heat, the grass was in dire need of a drink, so hubby set up the sprinkler. We didn’t realize it, but there was a bit of a leak where two hoses connected, and soon there were several small puddles popping up on the edge of the lawn…puddles which the Robins took great pleasure splashing about in.

Sometimes there was just one Robin…

…sometimes there was a pair…

…and sometimes there was quite a puddle party.

Most of the time they all got along nicely, but every so often, a bit of puddle possessiveness was displayed!

This lucky fellow below had a spot all too himself for awhile and he took full advantage of it.

I guess everyone loves the pleasure of a puddle!

    1. The funny thing is that there was a fountain and a bird bath right next to the puddles! But Robins just seem to have a preference for puddles! 🤪

  1. I just want to tell you how much I appreciate your posts. Your puddled robins was just delightful. I’m so jealous of your bird attendance. I live in very urban DC, with a scarcity of species. Many of my submitters to Draw-a-Bird Day follow your blog!
