Gone in a Flash

I was out on the deck the other afternoon, feeling like I was crazy for standing out in the ninety-something degree heat, when a female American Redstart flew in.

She landed for a brief moment…

…then quickly flew over to another perch…

…and then darted out of sight.

I wish she had stayed longer and posed in better lighting, but hey, you get what you get and you don’t pitch a fit, right? Besides, I feel blessed just to have seen her in the backyard!

  1. Interestingly, by coincidence, a female redstart landed on my deck railing just yesterday, too. I’ve never seen one come that close to the house… they usually are in the woods.

  2. What a fascinating post! It’s amazing how quickly these moments can pass. Your observations are both insightful and captivating. Thanks for sharing this quick but impactful glimpse into the world of backyard birds!
