First the Beach and then the Birds (Part II)

Well, in my last post I shared some shots of shells and sand and beachy sunrises from our recent trip to Hutchinson Island, Florida. But if you recall, my camera was a bit uncooperative (and I was a bit inexperienced) so I didn’t get a lot of bird pictures because of the constant lens fogging.

The only time I had some success in snapping some bird photos was our first night there. We went out for a walk and saw a golf course that had no golfers, but an abundance of birds.

There were several White Ibis that were grooming their feathers, constantly poofing and pruning…

…while others were just gallivanting along the greens.

A Green Heron was hunting for food along the side of a lake…

…but got a bit agitated when I tried to creep closer, so he flew a little farther away and gave me a “leave me alone” look.

There was an Osprey on the far side of another lake…

…and an Anhinga doing what Anhinga’s do best!

Several Ruddy Turnstones (don’t you just love that name?) were flitting about the shoreline, dipping and drinking…

…but my favorite photos were of the Mottled Ducks.

I just love their color tones, especially when you get a glimpse of that brilliant blue feather patch.

Although there’s a part of me that wishes I could have gotten out with the camera more, it was honestly nice to have some time away just “being” instead of “doing.”

  1. I wonder if a lens heater would help when you go from air conditioned rooms out to soggy humid warm weather. It doesn’t seem intuitive…but I know we use a lens heater when humidity is high or we’re shooting at night near the coast in the winter…maybe it’s backwards of your situation though. Too big a thought for me to figure it out! šŸ™‚

      1. they are not a lot of money…but sort of awkward to use. I’ve only used it with a tripod that has a little net that holds the power source.
