When last we left off, I was telling you about a delightful dining experience hubby and I had this past weekend – you could call it “dinner and a show.” We were on the back deck enjoying our pizza when the backyard turned into a Warbler wonderland. I’ve already shared several of the beauties that dropped by, but here are a few more.
This Chestnut-sided Warbler was darting in and out of the Japanese Maple tree, which kept him mostly camouflaged.

This lovely little Tennessee Warbler also popped in.

He was photobombed by a Pine Warbler (on the right) which gives you an idea of the difference in size and markings.

And last, but far from least, is the Yellow-throated Warbler, a bird that I think is absolutely stunning.

Fall migration is definitely underway, so stay tuned for several more birds that have decided to make my backyard a rest stop on their journey south!
They know they are being photographed, of course!
They do seem well aware of their beauty!
A pleasure to go through this post of yours.
Thank you!
So many warblers, so little time! I’d get all those yellow-ish warblers mixed up if I was ever lucky enough to see one or two of them! I had a yellow warbler (I think it was just a yellow warbler, not a pine warbler or a Tennessee warbler, but who knows) at my deck for a couple days in late August. Was fun!
I use my app to verify the warblers. They are hard for me to id!
Do they make distinctively different sounds?
Thanks for continuously sharing! Enjoying and learning!
My pleasure!
How cold was your pizza by the time these beauties stopped distracting you from your meal, Kathy?
They were rather polite and waited for me to finish two pieces before they arrived in force!
Your bird knowledge is so amazing! I remember decades ago seeing an article titled “those confusing warblers” or something like that–it was when I first learned how many warblers there were! How have you learned to ID them? Do you keep your Sibley’s nearby, or now you’ve got them down, or what?
Beautiful shots, Kathy! I think you may have put the wrong photo in for the chestnut-sided warbler, however. š
It doesn’t look like the typical one, does it? The one pictured is either a female or an immature male. I’ll post a picture of the male (who stopped by yesterday) in a few days!
Love those little green birds, the Tennessee Warbler. They are just amazing. Can’t believe you got a photo of one ! And along with all the other Warblers. God has given you a special gift to spread understanding of all these birds.
Thank you! My hope is always that if anyone takes the time to read a post on this site, that their day would be blessed with a little boost of beauty!
