Almost two years ago we moved to a different part of Georgia and I remember wondering if my new backyard would have as many birds to enjoy as the old one did. Well, the answer has been a resounding “yes”! Really there’s only been one bird that I’ve missed seeing – a Red-headed Woodpecker.
Well, guess who showed up yesterday!

This beauty swooped down into the Post Oak tree and came into the clearing just enough that I could get a couple of pictures fired off. I’m pretty sure he is enroute to somewhere in South America, but I’m hoping that he paused long enough to look around and think to himself, “Come spring, this would be a fine place to come back to and build a home and raise some young.”
Here’s hoping he was giving me a preview of coming attractions!
A beauty indeed.
Maybe it just took him awhile to fly all the way over from your old yard! I hope he’s back in the spring too. We have these birds around here but I’ve never seen one in my yard. Maybe someday. They are such stunning birds, the black and white so marked when they fly and then that red head.
What a beauty! One we don’t see much of up north, they are very rare.
Wow. What a bird! Lovely captures.
Thank you!
