The Pine Warblers in my backyard are crazy these days! With the temps topping out below freezing, they are antsy and a wee bit aggressive. Okay, “wee bit” is an understatement! They are constantly battling one another to get to the Bark Butter – which is a great source of protein.
When I go out with the camera, I either find them greedily gobbling…

…steadfastly guarding…

…or doing a grab and go.

And did I mention that there are a ton of them? Easily, there are two or three dozen at a time in their varying shades of yellow. I never remember having so many before. And they truly are beautiful!
But don’t let that pretty pose…

or that angelic appearance fool you…

…these guys are WARblers!
It seems like as soon as one perches to eat, another comes swooping in to dive bomb them out of the way.

They treat this Bark Butter like toilet paper in the Covid crisis!

They don’t realize that as long as they keep coming, I’ll keep restocking! And I’ll also keep enjoying their antics!
This does show how compelling the need to stock up on fuel to survive. I live in a bldg. of condos beside a creek & a GreenWay where I would love to put out bark butter & seed, especially in this weather, but we have rules against it because of the many bears resident in the neighborhood. Surely we hope they are all fast asleep in January, but as the temperatures are so variable, up & down constantly, they aren’t able to truly hibernate & are seen out & about all winter. I too don’t want to see one sitting on my porch, where wrens & the hawk! do often perch on the wicker chairs & look in at me peering back at them. But how fun for you with endless supply of the means of their survival.
I can just picture the hawk peeking in at you!
Such great entertainment. π Lovely images, Kathy!
Who needs Netflix, eh?
Beautiful aerial captures Kathy !
Thank you! I missed more shots than I made, but I was happy to have a few turn out!
They sure are pretty, though! I saw a bald eagle fly over the house about sundown today. I NEVER see them here. It was sooooo exciting. No camera on me.
Ooooh fun!
