In my family there are a lot of summer birthdays to celebrate! My hubby, my daughter, my son, and my two grandgirlies, as well as my brother, and my nephew all have July or August birthdays. And, while not technically a part of my family, but still a resident in my backyard, this Red-bellied baby Woodpecker who showed up the other day was also born in the summer season.

He is that perfect combination of awkward and cute, and is still in the noisy, demanding stage. He kept calling for Mom to bring him food…

…and once he realized that wasn’t going to happen, he flew off to join her where she was busily loading her beak with Bark Butter.

This poor Mama is not looking her finest, as she is going through a bit of molting, but she is still diligently doing her parenting duties. She gave him a hearty helping…

…and then went back to gather some more.

Oh, by the way, my non-summer birthday happens to be October 11th. I’m turning 60 this year, and am going ahead and letting you know so that when the day comes you can kindly say, “You don’t look a day over 59!”
👏
Wow, that’s a bundle of summer family celebrations! Wonderful pics of your woodpecker family too!
Thanks Gail!
