I Finally Captured the Crown!

Another winter visitor who has made an appearance in my backyard is the Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Energetic and erratic, this small bird is constantly flitting about and flicking its wings.  They are delightful to watch, but can be difficult to photograph since they dart about and don’t stay still for long.  They are especially tricky for a novice like myself who has not yet mastered the art of rapid focusing!

I was thrilled today to capture a picture of this male displaying his “ruby crown.”  He usually keeps his crown concealed but reveals it when he wants to claim a territory or  flirt with the females!195element
