Bathing Bonanza: Tub for Two

The Eastern Bluebirds are yet another bird that love a backyard bath. This handsome fella popped in the other day and set about the business of enjoying a satisfying soak.

But in no time at all, a lovely lady had joined him, clearly deciding that this tub was plenty big enough for two!

They took turns dipping and dripping…

…and then she sat on the edge and got a shower while he went on splashing.

Once he was finished and flew off she settled in and enjoyed having the tub all to herself.

Isn’t she a beauty!

  1. Oh they are adorable. That third image, with the two of them just soaking was so cute. The rest are cool, with the water captured ‘in flight.” I’ve only had bluebirds at my bird baths (we have two) in very cold weather, because the birdbaths are heated. Once in awhile there will be a ring of bluebirds on the edge, warming up.

  2. Do you collect bird feathers, Kathy? I do & have plenty of blue jays’ blues, but never a bluebird’s. It would be lovely if they would leave you one blue feather sometime for the pleasures of your birdbath. I saw a bathing vision this summer. There is a creek at the foot of the front yard where birds dip & bathe themselves. One day when I was watching 4 bluebirds wash themselves, a small group of goldfinches in the tree above decided to dive in too & that decided Mr. Cardinal also in the tree he needed a wash as well & flew in to complete the primary colors on display. If only I were a brilliant photographer like you are, I would have captured that flashing rainbow spectrum.

    1. Now that’s a sight I would have loved to have seen! There’s something special about seeing that kind of beauty.
I don’t collect feathers, but I always admire them when I see them.
If a Bluebird ever leaves me a lovely feather I shall ask you where to send it. 😊

  3. Our house has been under construction this year so our yard is a huge mess and we haven’t had any feeders out. One of the things I’m really looking forward to next year is putting in a bird bath along with feeders. Thanks for the reminder that it’s worth doing!
