So, a blog that I follow, Bay Photos by Donna, did a “Woodpecker Wednesday” post recently, and since I seem to have a lot of Woodpeckers stopping by the backyard these days, I thought I’d copy her good idea and do the same!
I have had lovely little Downy Woodpeckers popping in…

…and Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers.

Red-bellied Woodpeckers have been grabbing and stashing peanuts…

…and a Pileated Woodpecker has been flying about the outskirts of the yard taunting me with his loud laugh-like cry. He was quite a distance away and I had to shoot him through a tangle of branches, so until he decides to come closer and land in a clearer spot and strike a pretty pose, this picture will have to serve as proof that he’s actually hanging about!

I’ve also had a Northern Flicker (the yellow-shafted variety) that hasn’t come to the feeders yet, but has been investigating the tree-tops and has grabbed a quick drink from the fountain here and there.

And last, but not least, this handsome Hairy Woodpecker, who is still somewhat skittish around me, has been waiting til the coast is clear and then dashing down to snatch bits of Bark Butter.

By the way, if you aren’t already following Donna’s blog you really do want to check it out. She gets some great pictures of some fun birds!
I have all of those too, though the yellow-bellied is not around the feeders as far as I know. I love it when the big Ole hairy woodpecker shows up. He’s a talker and always announces his arrival. So fun!
I don’t know why the Hairy is so skittish around me. I’m hoping he warms up before the season ends.
wonderful capture of the woodpecker in flight!
Thanks!
