Harry Woodpeckers are pretty common in my neck of the woods, but the ones that hang out in my backyard tend to be on the skittish side. I was surprised (pleasantly) when this fella dropped down to grab a bite of food.
He must have been one hungry Hairy!

we have a pair that occasionally visit our feeders. the announce themselves when they land on the feeder, that’s how I normally notice them.
