On the last day of our stay in La Fortuna, we went back to the Bogarin Trail, where we had seen the sloths earlier in the week. Right at the entrance, there is a wonderful viewing area, where they put out papayas and bananas to entice birds to pay a visit.
A bunch of beauties showed up to feast on the free food, many of which I’ve already shared in previous posts, so let me just feature a few that haven’t yet had a chance to make an appearance.
Let’s start with what has to be the noisiest birds in Costa Rica – the Orange-chinned Parakeets.

These birds are beautiful…

…and fun to watch as they engage in their courtship behavior!

But, when one arrives a crowd is soon to follow, and man do they raise a ruckus!

Here is a video shot with my phone to give you an idea of what I mean!
We also saw two birds with fun names – a Grey-headed Chachalaca…

…and a Montezuma Oropendola – who didn’t mind the rain at all!

A shimmery Scaly-breasted Hummingbird paused to perch…

…as did a gorgeous Grey-capped Flycatcher.

It seemed like every time I turned around in Costa Rica, I was encountering a Tanager that I didn’t even know existed – like this breathtaking Scarlet-rumped Tanager.

The male makes it obvious whence came the name!

The female is lovely too, but is garbed in a completely different color palette.

Like the Parakeets, they were busy with their flirting-that-looked-like-fighting behavior!

I’ve already told ya’ll that my favorite bird from the trip was the Red-legged Honeycreeper, but the Green Honeycreeper had to be next on the list.

Are these guys not absolutely gorgeous!!

I wish I could have left a trail of papaya leading right to my own backyard!
I’ve been having such a good time going back through the pictures and sharing them with you – it’s like I get to re-live the trip! Thanks for indulging me!
