This past weekend, my friend Joni and I spent a few days adventuring in Chattanooga, hiking to a bunch of beautiful waterfalls. But before I share some photos of the falls, let me share a photo of the friends – holding our extra special hiking sticks. I say extra special because my Dad hand-crafted them for us, and everywhere we went, folks were oohing and aahing over them!

And now for the falls. How about I just share them in the order we visited them. All of the pictures were taken with my cell phone, as I didn’t want to lug along my camera body and lens, but I’d say it did a pretty decent job!
Foster Falls was our first stop, a 60 foot falls that is nestled in a rocky cove in South Cumberland State Park. We got to see it from the top of the trail first…
…and then made our way to the bottom. It’s a little less than a mile (out and back)to get there, but it has a fair number of steep steps and a really fun hanging bridge to cross.
Next we made our way to Savage Gulf State park, where we hiked a 3 mile loop that boasted 3 incredible falls, made even more amazing because of the heavy rains that had recently drenched the area.
Upper Greeter Falls was the first on the trail…
…followed by Lower Greeter Falls.
Both of these were fun because you could (carefully!) venture off the trail and get close to both the top and the bottom of the falls. We really had fun exploring these two falls!
The last on the loop was Broadtree Falls, which was more difficult to get to, but was so worth the extra effort! It was absolutely gorgeous!
We took along a tiny tripod with a camera holder so we could get some selfies, which kinda makes me laugh cause neither one of us are selfie kinda gals! Bt hey, we were in memory making mode!

While we were at the base of Broadtree Falls, I got down on a rock to take a picture of the creek that the falls flowed into, and while I was intent on the task, someone sneakily snapped a picture. Hey, what are friends for, right??

On day two of our get away, we chose to go to Glen Falls, which was only a trek of a mile and change. The scenery was stunning, but it was harder to get a clear shot of the falls. The photo below was about the best I could manage.
And then, without knowing it, we ended up saving the best for last – Denny Cove Falls. This trail of a little over three miles was rather challenging at times, and the last half mile felt more like rock hopping than trail walking, but the reward was so worth the effort!
There’s just something majestically magical about standing at the base of the falls and feeling the spray on your face and hearing the roar of the water crashing into the basin. I could have sat there for a really long time without ever getting bored.
You know, the only thing better than hiking to beautiful waterfalls, is hiking to waterfalls with a beautiful friend, especially one that’s more like family!
And hey, if you’re ever thinking about taking a trip to explore and experience some breathtaking falls, I’d definitely put Chattanooga in the spring on the list!

An amazing adventure Kathy with your friend. Those waterfall pics are beautiful, and so many falls. You managed to slow the shutter enough on your phone to get the beautiful silking effect.
It really was amazing!
The waterfalls look like a setting from a fantasy novel!
Wow, you picked the perfect time to make this trip with the falls in full spate. Awesome shots!
All the recent rain had them flowing at their fullest!
Looks fabulous! And I love those walking staffs (I’m using staff here as I think Gandalf would be super happy with one of these)!!
Yes! I must agree!
lovely
