In my own backyard, Red-bellied Woodpeckers are common visitors, although the name just doesn’t seem fitting as their bellies typically only have the slightest bit of blush.

But, if I want to see a Red-headed Woodpecker (at least for now) I have to take the camera over to Mom and Dad’s house. They have had a pair showing up each April for the last couple of years.
Now, the problem, is that these beauties have chosen the top of the light post as their preferred perch, which makes for a bit of an eyesore in the photo.

But, since my household hero likes to humor me (as do my folks!), you simply ask for the light to be lowered a foot or so. That way, when one of the birds swoops down to grab a peanut…

…and then flies back up to the perch to enjoy it, you get a nice clear shot!

I’m planning on heading back over there soon, with the hopes that this pair will oblige me with some pictures.
Handsome guy!
It’s hard to imagine a more beautiful bird!
So cool! (Nice family too π.) Beautiful birds. Lovely shots.
