One of the sure signs to me that summer is indeed at hand is the arrival of Clearwing Moths – a cool critter that looks like a cross between a bumble bee and a hummingbird.

The other day, I glanced out a window into the side yard and saw one of these beauties (of the Snowberry variety) flitting about the yellow blossomed butterfly bush, so I took my camera and went out in hopes of capturing a few photos.

You can see why these moths are called Clearwing Moths. Aren’t those wings beautiful!

Now I’m hoping that the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds will soon start nipping at the zinnias that are beginning to bloom, and that a whole host of Swallowtails will join them!
Great shots! I look forward to the hatching out of ours… soon, I hope.
Aren’t they fun to watch? I hope yours arrive soon!
What fabulous photos! Our hummers are already here… Saw a black-chinned hummingbird doing its diving dance just down the street last week.
Yes what a delight it would be to see the hummingbirds š
Interesting insect. I’ve heard of hummingbird moths, but not this critter.
They look the same, just different color tones. š
Gorgeous! Nice captures. š
Thanks!
