Baby Bird Bombardment

I walked outside to fill my feeders this morning and was bombarded with baby birds. They were everywhere! What choice did I have but to set aside whatever task was next on my to-do list (which clearly was not all that important since I have no recollection of what it was) and quickly grab my camera?

The baby bluebirds that showed up yesterday returned for breakfast, and were probably the noisiest of the bunch. These youngsters run their poor parents ragged!

A young mocking bird staked his claim on the ever popular Bark Butter branch.

He only managed to get a few nibbles before a juvenile Red-bellied Woodpecker arrived and a brief Bark Butter battle ensued.

And to the victor goes the spoils!

A couple of young Downy Woodpeckers also joined in the morning’s festivities. The male perched on another limb coated with the much coveted suet-type spread…

…while the female helped herself to some peanuts. I love her fluffy feathers.

Two young Blue Jays made an appearance, packing their pouches with sunflower seeds and peanuts. It always amazes me how much they can stash away in one sitting.

And lest you fear that the young mocking bird who lost the battle went hungry, he merely flew to a less busy branch and helped himself to a hearty meal.

My backyard was indeed a “happening place” this morning!
