The Bluebirds aren’t the only babies in the backyard; the Downy Woodpeckers have little ones too!

This male Downy showed up the other day and scouted out the area to see if it was safe.

He had clearly told Junior to remain in the Dogwood branches…

…and Junior clearly disobeyed! Someone might want to let him know that it’s not wise to wound the wings that bring you food!

Dad gave his little one a beak-full of food…

…and then flew off to the outskirts of the yard.

The little guy lingered for a moment (probably hoping for a to-go portion)…

…and then flew off after Dad.

I love baby bird season!
