Do you remember the opening lines to the old Superman show? “Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s Superman!”
Well, I run through a repertoire with the same sort of rhythm whenever I see this fellow below.

Look! At the blossom! It’s a bird…it’s a bee…it’s a Hummingbird Moth!

These creatures are so very cool, especially once you realize they don’t sting!

The season just doesn’t seem complete until a Hummingbird Moth shows up. And since he has now made an appearance, I say we go ahead and bid summer farewell and give an early welcome to fall; after all, that means Fantasy Football can start! Go team Birdnerd!
Hummingbird hawk moth, so fast so quick
Esp. love the curled proboscis!
Me too!
Is it unusual to see this moth out and about by day?
Nope…he’s a fella who loves the sunshine!
Noooooo, I’m not ready to say goodbye to the summer yet!!! On a side note, do you remember writing a post in August of 2022 about Kincardine and the bagpiper parade? Because of you my sister and I went to Canada and camped for 4 days, we got to see a Celtic festival in Goderich, which is south of Kincardine and the parade on Saturday in Kincardine. We had a wonderful time and we’d never have been there without YOU! Thank you!!
That makes me so happy! Aren’t those towns just so charming! I’m so glad you went.
You’ll read all about it once I can get through the 1000+ images… LOL. We spent 2 nights at Point Farms State Park and 2 nights at McGregor State Park. The first one was 5 miles from Goderich which was absolutely charming and McGregor was 20 miles north of the town that you visited with the bagpipe parade. Also a cute town, though Queen street was all torn up while they’re redoing sewer pipes under it.
I look forward to it!
