Warbler Wonderland (Part I)

It all started with a pizza…
a homemade pizza with sausage and pepperoni…
the kind where the mouthwatering aroma of garlic and yeast fills the air while it’s baking!
Well, the weather was nice yesterday evening, so hubby and I decided to take this delicacy and dine out on the deck, and I’m so glad that we did because the backyard turned into a Warbler wonderland!

The first to arrive was this Black and White Warbler.

These beauties can easily be mistaken for White-breasted Nuthatches not only because of their size and color tones, but also because of the poses they strike.

A female American Redstart also made an unexpected appearance. Isn’t she lovely!?

She was mostly interested in grabbing a quick shower from the sprinkler that was running, as were a lot of other birds that stopped by.

Her gorgeous male counterpart was flitting about in the treetops overhead, making it quite challenging to get a clear shot of him. These birds are so busy, and are always on the move! Right now, they are just dropping in to grab some bugs and berries as they head farther south for the winter.

I have never gotten a picture of an American Redstart before, so I was beyond thrilled that this striking couple stopped in.

There are several more Warblers that also paid a visit while we ate our pizza, but I think I’ll save them for the next post – that way we can spread the beauty out a bit!

  1. Aren’t Mr and Mrs Redstart a lovely couple! I’ve heard them around here, but have only seen them fly by once. I’ve seen a black and white warbler once too, mostly hidden in a thicket. Your back yard is a wonderland!

  2. Such beautiful birds, Kathy! On this side of the world warblers are for the most part rather drably coloured and consequently difficult to see and identify.
