We interrupt our Bathing Bonanza series to announce the arrival of royalty – the Ruby-crowned and the Golden-crowned Kinglets are back in town!
This pair of tiny princes have been doing their darndest to conceal their crowns from the backyard paparazzi (that would be me!), but their twitchiness and flittiness is a dead give away to their true identities.
I saw the Ruby-crowned Kinglet first, darting in and out of the leaves in the Maple tree.

Later, he landed on a bare branch near the fountain, giving a brief glimpse of his red head feathers as he flew away.

The Golden-crowned Kinglet showed up a bit later, also hanging out on the branches near the fountain.

I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get a good shot of one of these Kinglets showing their full crown at some point this season, but even if I don’t, I love having them hanging out in the backyard.
…and we love them, and are grateful to you for allowing us to see them through your lens!
How long do they typically stay around?
Til early spring.
