Sapsucker Surveillance

I’ve had a beautiful Yellow-bellied Sapsucker that’s been hanging about in the backyard this winter. It always makes me smile when he comes swooping in.

His tendency is to land a bit higher up, on a tree close to the feeding area, where he can perch and do some surveillance.

This time, a White-breasted Nuthatch was busy grabbing some food at the peanut pole, which was apparently the area that he had his eye on.

He waited til the coast was clear (he is really a rather mild-mannered bird) and then flew down to take his turn.

He really is one of my favorites!
