Hidden But Heard

There is a Great Crested Flycatcher in my backyard that taunts me!
I can hear him loudly calling from the treetops, but he mostly stays hidden amidst the overhead leaves, with his coloring making him (or her) very difficult to spot. He seems oblivious to the fact that I am standing there waiting with my camera!

But every now and then, one will dart out after an unsuspecting bug and land on a branch close enough and clear enough for me to get a shot or two.

The other day (much to my delight) one briefly landed in the Post Oak tree that is quite close to the deck. I love that buttery belly and the copper tinted tail feathers.

These birds are really quite lovely. Now, if only they weren’t so camera shy!
