I took my camera outside this morning with the hopes of stalking a Hummingbird in the zinnia garden, but instead, I was treated to a visit by a Goldfinch pair.
The fella showed up first, dressed in his finest summer feathers, and began snacking on seed from a flower whose petals they had already plucked.

He was tucked in amidst the leaves and stems, which made it a bit difficult to get a clear shot of him – especially since I was trying to be as still as possible so as to not scare him away.

The female flew in shortly after him. She sampled some seed…

…and then flew over to another blossom to pull off more petals, which makes it easier to get to the good stuff!

Aren’t they both absolutely gorgeous?!
I was so glad when the male flew out and landed in a perfect posing place.

He only stayed there a moment, and then flew off…

…to resume more seed snacking!

I know there are gardeners who get frustrated when these pretty petal pluckers strip the blossoms bare, but I am always delighted when they show up to feast on the flowers!
Pretty indeed.
They realized they were the target of a paparazzi.
What a handsome fella! Love the bright yellow/black with the pink/green.
I love goldfinches. I didn’t know they did that petal pulling thing. My zinnia plants are not in bloom yet.
