A handsome Hairy Woodpecker has been hanging about in the backyard lately, only he is a wee bit antsy! Whenever I am outside with my camera, he tries to hide and keep his distance.
The other day though, I could tell that he was hungry, so I decided to try and wait him out. He skirted around from tree to tree for quite some time…

…and finally got brave enough to venture closer to the feeding area.

Then he swooped onto the Bark Butter branch and helped himself to several beakfuls.

But he wasn’t the only hungry hider hanging about. Before long, all the birds rapidly scattered and I turned to see a Red-shouldered Hawk semi-concealed amidst a tangle of twigs and branches. I tried (I really tried!) to get a clear shot, but despite my twisting and stooping and leaning and bending, the best I could do was just get evidence of his presence!

The good news is that this Hawk is part of a pair that has been “active” as of late, so perhaps some baby hawks will make an appearance in the not-so-distant future!
What a beauty Kathy π
