When I was out taking pictures of the baby Blue Jays the other day, I happened to glance up and see a Yellow-billed Cuckoo perched in the top of the post oak tree.

She was glancing about in different directions, probably looking to snare an unsuspecting snack!


These birds (at least in my experience) are rather elusive, so having one show up and sit long enough for me to snap a few shots made my heart happy. I think their long spotted tails give them a rather exotic look.

This yellow-billed beauty didn’t stay long before flying off…

…but I hope she knows she is always welcome in my backyard!
Lucky you! They are very shy of humans. I’ve only seen one once, and their calls aren’t all that common either.
So neat! I’ve only ever heard them (very occasionally).
