Much to my delight, a Golden-crowned Kinglet paid a visit to the backyard the other day. These little birds don’t show up often, and when they do, they are difficult to capture in a picture because they are fast and flitty and rarely sit still for more than a second.

I saw this beauty fly up into the Post Oak to forage for insects, hunting in the bark and amidst the leaves.

It seemed like every time I thought I finally had him in focus, he flew off to another area of the tree!

Although they are a challenge to photograph, they are oh so fun to watch.

I was excited when he finally paused in a clearing long enough for me to fire off a few shots!

I hope this furtive little fellow decides to make my backyard a regular place to visit!
Great opportunity and shots! We have Goldcrests here that do the same, little sods to get decent shots of so well done 🙂
So you understand that the struggle is real!
🙂 most definitely, I stand watching them so often, not even attempting to get a shot and then, when I do, they flit away!!!
A bird we only see in migration, they are sweet little fluff-balls!
Fidgety little fluff balls!
Such a precious bird you have managed to capture! One must be very fortunate to get a glimpse of them. Thank you for sharing these moments with us. 😄
It brings me joy to get a fun photo, but so much more joy to share them!
Yes, a Golden-crowned Kinglet feels like a flicker of magic in the backyard.
And, they move so quickly!
Actually, those little birds are especially tough to photograph. You are lucky to have seen one up close!
A flicker of magic…great phrase!
Great shots! Yes, incredibly difficult to get good shots of these quickly darting creatures. Really like the second image, where he’s almost upside down.
He was upside down and right side up and every which way in between!
very beautifull birds 👍
Thank you!
What an amazing little bird—one of my favorites! They’re so tiny. I often hear them in the spruce and fir trees near my workplace, with that recognizable sound. They’re always on the move, so getting a good photo of them isn’t easy. Beautiful photos!
