Happy Mail

This afternoon, a large envelope addressed to me was waiting in my mailbox. When I opened it, I found a complimentary copy of a Birds and Blooms magazine with a note saying that they had published one of my pictures in it. How cool is that?

The funny thing is, I submitted this photo well over a year ago, before I even had my current camera. Since several of you (especially Laura from Create Art Everyday) have kindly commented that my pictures are “publication worthy”, I thought I’d share this fun news.

Here is the photo of a Mockingbird singing in the pouring rain that is in their September (extra) edition.

I’m pretty sure this is the only photo I have ever sent them…and I have to admit, it makes me smile to know that it got published…but I honestly get just as much pleasure by posting my pictures here in this Birdnerd Blog!  🙂

  1. Congratulations, Kathy!!! 🙂 See, I knew the publishing world would discover you one day. 🙂 Birds’n’Blooms is a magazine I used to subscribe to a few years ago; are they still advertising-free (like Garden Gate)?

Great photo of the mockingbird, right down to the raindrops decorating his head!

  2. Hi Kathy,
After reading your post I went and looked at my latest “Birds & Bloom.” (I am way behind reading the last few issues.) There on page 76 was your photo! Yea! Great photo as all of yours are! Congratulations with many more to come! 

  3. Congratulations, it is a lovely photo! I so enjoy your posts! Thanks for sharing!

    1. I thought of you right away when I opened the magazine. I’m pretty sure I thought something like, “Laura is going to be more excited about this than I am!” It really was a sweet surprise.

  4. Wow, this is so cool!!! Congratulations!!! 🏆🎉 Love that picture! I think I never saw a bird just sitting in the pouring rain like this… Think that´s what makes it so special, at least to me.

    1. This fellow was just singing up a storm. He really made me smile, although I’m sure my neighbors were wondering what I was doing outside with my camera in the rain!

      1. You’re too kind 🙂 I’d love to submit some of my photos to contests in the near future. Must start to sort through files… 😀 Again, I love this shot!
