I spent yesterday afternoon with my folks and came down with a severe case of Hummingbird envy!
These glowing green birds were dipping and darting all over their backyard. I was hoping to get a picture of one sipping from a Trumpet Vine, but that area seemed to be an arena for all out aerial attacks!
Instead, I snapped a few photos of this fellow…
…who was content to steal some nectar from the feeder while the others around him were busy fighting. Not quite as pretty as having him perched on a flower, but it will have to do!
Tack sharp, beautiful!
Thanks! It was nice that he sat still for a moment!
They all give me hummingbird envy. I’ve not seen hide nor hair of a single one this year.
I hope one comes your way soon!
I could watch them for hours! We have a lot in our yard and they can get quite aggressive. Funny when they chase robins and other bigger birds but then have to fend off the bees!
Mine have been going after the dragonflies!
Spare a thought for someone who has never seen one in the wild….not Ever! The hummingbird is my all time favourite bird and one day I will go on a bird holiday overseas and experience this creature in the wild. Kathy that photo is stunning. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Kath.
I so hope you get to go on your bird holiday! Out of curiosity, what is your favorite think to sketch/paint as an artist?
Birds or cows Kathy
I have many on my feeder too, but I agree, a photo on a flower is so much prettier. You got a GREAT shot though. 🙂 They are so sweet!!!
I may have to go camp out at my folks house at a day and just keep the camera aimed at the Trumpet vine!
I so love your little hummingbirds, please keep posting:-)
Well okay then, but only because you say too! 😉
Omg Kathy. What a wonderful shot! Love it! The cool angle of the body there, just invites an abstract interpretation 😉
I liked the angle to…something about the way the wings were positioned. 🙂
It looks like a modern sculpture, almost.
A beautiful little hummer! Great photo!
Thank you kind sir!
