When I first walked out into the front yard with my camera this afternoon there was very little activity – but the sun was shining and my soul was in need of a little photo-therapy, so I decided to wait awhile and see who showed up.
After about 15 minutes of standing still and silent I was rewarded with a visit from a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, who made a beeline for the Butterfly Bush.
Next this flitty little female headed over to investigate one of the few remaining Canna Lily…
…and then she hovered about the Zinnia’s for a bit.
After perching briefly on a nearby vine – perhaps to pause and savor the flavor of the nectar…
…she darted back over to the Zinnia’s for some more taste-testing.
It was such a treat to get to take her picture today. Β I guess it must be true that good things (or at least good things with wings) do indeed come to those who wait.
It certainly did for you today, Karen, with thee priceless photos of Little Mrs. Hummer lunching in your garden. Almost every time I go out in the yard & stand quite still & wait a bit, I see or hear something remarkable, sometimes something I’ve never seen or heard before, right in my own back yard! Good things!
Patience does pay off! π
It was definitely worth the wait. It’s always a good day when you can get good pics of hummingbirds π
Agreed!
I really enjoyed your hummingbird pics. They’re magic!
Thank you! I definitely enjoyed taking them. π
Lovely photos! Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!

Your patience really paid off. These photos are remarkable. Hummingbirds are not easy to photograph!
They are definitely hard to get in focus with their fast, flitty, flying!
You were handsomely rewarded. Kathy! What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
It was a treat to get out for a bit with the camera. π
A visit from a hummingbird is always a blessing in my book! β€οΈ Beautiful shots, Kathy! π
Thanks!
How wonderful! You sound like you have a great selection of plants to attract the birds.
We try to plant some things to lure the butterflies and hummingbirds our way. π
Lucky you to have gotten these captures.
Agreed!
Fabulous photos! I love the one with her tongue out!
I liked that one too!
Fantastic pics!
Kathy that would be my dream day, as we don’t get hummingbirds in Australia. I love them. One day I plan to go on a bird holiday in the USA and finally see them for real. Your photos are amazing I bet you had a smile on your face for the rest of the day.
I hope you really get to go on your bird holiday one day. π
Cool!!!
