I tend to put out quite a banquet for my backyard birds, but I’m pretty sure if I had them vote for their favorite food the winner would be Bark Butter.
This suety-spread (available at Wild Birds Unlimited) attracts a huge variety of birds.
This afternoon, I put some on a branch that I have attached to my deck and then waited to see who showed up. Here’s a handful that stopped by to feast.

And here’s another handful.

So, if you want to attract more birds to your backyard –
1) Find yourself a beautiful dead branch and bungee cord it to your deck… then…
2) Get yourself some Bark Butter (Here’s the link!) and spread it on the branch.
Then sit back and enjoy the show!
Thanks for the tip! And cute birds!
I am a big fan of Bark Butter!
What a beautiful variety of birds!
That is one of my favorite things about where I live.
What a hungry group of guests. You are a wonderful hostess.
I tend to get the most activity on these cold days when they need a quick and easy to find meal.
wow- this is great- what a variety of birds! Beautiful photos!
Thank you. I so enjoy standing outside with my camera and waiting to see who will show up.
Wow! Sounds like the recipe for beauty in the backyard!
Indeed!
A wonderful mix of species! Bark butter is definitely my bird’s favorite too! If I run out, my pair of Hairy woodpeckers hang on the tree where I put it and call to me loudly over and over. Then they sit and watch me put more out from just a couple feet away.
Yes! I have birds that do the same. My Blue Jays are the worst though – heaven forbid I let the peanuts run out!
What does the bark butter consist of, Kathy? We’d have to try and make our own here.
Hmmm… the list of ingredients says: Roasted peanuts, corn, rendered beef suet, calcium carbonate, and soy oil.
Thanks, Kathy! I think I will stick to feeding on the nuts and raisins give the suet a wide birth if I were one of your backyard birds and … 😀
You have quite the following! 😉 And I love the name of it! 😃🐦👍
It is a fun name!
Top shots Kathie! You capture the whole bird so beautifully, and how wonderful to have so many turn up each day. That bark butter must be something awful nice!
I haven’t tried it, but the birds sure seem to think so!
Isn’t that Kinglet SO cute! 😁
I was so hoping he would flash that lovely red crown, but alas, I’ll have to keep watching and waiting!
