Familiar Feathers

We interrupt these recent posts on the wetland wanderings to share a few photos of some familiar backyard feathers – one of my favorite birds (please don’t keep track of how often I say that!) the Carolina Wren.

This lovely, lively little fellow has a volume that greatly surpasses his size, and a pretty extensive song repertoire too – up to about 40 songs.

Don’t you just love his warn, rich color tones! I don’t know if it was today’s lighting or what, but he seemed extra coppery. I even thought about naming him Abe!

These wrens are so much fun to have around with their perky, peppy personalities.

They are not picky eaters, though they do show a preference for the peanuts and the mealworms.

Having a change of scenery and taking pictures of different birds in different places is fun (and there will be more Florida posts to follow), but I think there’s something to be said for Dorothy’s words, “There’s no place like home!”

  1. One of my favorite backyard characters too, Kathy. Darting here & there overhead, loudly sounding off the whole time. I sometimes reply as I hurry out with my offerings, Ok! Ok! I’m coming.
