I’ve had a female Scarlet Tanager hanging about the backyard for the last several days. I’m pretty sure she’s just enjoying a rest stop during her long fall flight from one continent to another.
I often see her perched in the Post Oak, scanning the area for bugs…

…or diving down for berries.

You’d think these bright-feathered beauties would be easy to see, but it’s amazing how well they can blend in with the leaves.

I’m gonna miss her when she moves on…

…but who knows, maybe she’ll mark this as a “favorite” and stop back in when spring rolls around.
Thank you for the beautiful photos. How amazing your backyard must be.your loving care for the birds is beyond wonderful.
And thank you for leaving a comment. Beauty is enjoyed all the more when it is shared!
Awww, I bet she does come back next year. She probably appreciates the attention, given most of us only oooh and ahhhh over her colorful mate.
I saw him hiding in the treetops, but he didn’t come out in the clearing.
Migrating birds have a remarkable knack for pitching up in the same location year after year after year. I think they have their favourite rest stops just like we do on our long road trips. I think you’ll see her again!
What a cutie…looking to be very much enjoying its stopover.
