About a dozen male Goldfinches showed up in the backyard today, all wearing their warm weather wardrobes! Gone (or mostly gone) were the drab feathers of winter; instead, they were sporting their vibrant yellows of spring.
Some were just perched and looking pretty…

…while others were busy eating seed. This fellow below was a bit territorial, and chased a rival male away.

But, what goes around comes around, because only a second later he was dive-bombed by a Pine Siskin and had to vacate his spot.

I thought this guy was quite lovely, and I’m pretty sure he agreed with me!

I was thinking to myself, “I wish he’d turn around so I could get a picture of his back feathers.” Well, as if he could read my mind, he turned right around and struck a pose. I guess one birdbrain recognizes another!

It won’t be long before their feathers are fully filled in and then they will be absolutely glorious! So, stay tuned for more Goldfinch photos in the future!
Beautiful images of the Goldfinches Kathy, especially loved the capture of the Siskin dive-bombing the Goldfinches.
Our Pine Siskins are quite fearless!
Spring plumage is always the best. I was admiring a couple of woodpecker species just this morning. All dressed up in their finery for breeding season!
Fancy finery for sure!
A sight for sore winter eyes!
I agree! Little blurs of brightness!
What a bright, lovely show!
