I stayed home on Friday afternoon, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the FedEx delivery guy, who showed up just after lunchtime with my new camera body and lens! A Canon R7 and a 100-500mm RF lens. Yep, I’ve gone mirrorless!
There’s going to be a bit of a learning curve as I try to figure out the new features, but I wanted to share some of the photos from my first time taking it out in the backyard.

I’m already in love with this new camera! It’s letting me track birds that are tucked away amidst the tree branches with much greater ease.

I couldn’t decide which Blue Jay picture to share, so I’ll just post a handful!

Oh, and if you know me (or have hung around this blog for awhile), you won’t be surprised to learn that this new lens already has a name. I have dubbed it Walker Hayes, because “every now and then when he gets paid, my hubby spoils his baby with an upgrade!” And if that leaves you shaking your head in bewilderment, google the song Fancy Like and all will be made clear!
I think this is just the beginning of a long and lasting relationship with Walker Hayes!
Love your Blue Jays Kathy, they are one of my favs of your birds and you have captured them beautifully. Your new camera is great I wish I had waited and bought a later Mirrorless I only have an R but it is a challenge, I still liked my SLR best of all but it died on me after being worn out.
A good investment yielding excellent ROI already! š
Iām excited to keep playing with it. š
A collection of beauties!
Thank you!
Lovely birds and seemingly a lovely new set of toys. Enjoy them and please update us periodically on how you enjoy the mirrorless (someday, if my pocketbook allows, Iād love to upgrade myself). š¤©
