Shots Between Showers

We’ve had a lot of rain lately, so this morning, when there was a brief break in the forecast, I went outside to see if I could get a few shots between showers.

A Ruby-crowned Kinglet was hovering about, darting at the Bark Butter and doing its best imitation of a hummingbird.

A Brown Creeper also showed up, doing what Brown Creepers do. He’d start at the bottom of the branch and spiral his way up, nibbling as he went along.

An Eastern Phoebe popped in for a mealworm…

…and several Downy Woodpeckers showed up and squabbled with each other over who got to eat where. I promise, there really is enough for all of them!

And this extremely handsome Yellow-bellied Sapsucker also came by to grab a quick snack.

He gave us a good view of his front side, showing off his brilliant red neck…

…then turned so we could see his how well he blends with the tree bark from the back side.

And now I am safe and snug back inside as the rain has started to fall again. Hey, you gotta grab those moments when you can!
