I glanced out the window the other day and saw a beautiful Red-shouldered Hawk perched on a backyard branch. I knew I wanted to try and get a picture, so I grabbed my camera (while hubby distracted the dogs) and I slowly opened the back door, trying really hard not to make any noise or sudden movements.
I’d like to say I was super stealthy and he never even knew I was there, but alas, he was keenly aware of my presence and didn’t seem to appreciate the intrusion into his afternoon hunting. Still, he did stay perched long enough for me to snap a few shots.
I wish he had opted to stick around and strike a few poses, but I guess I’ll just have to settle for a brief but glorious glimpse!

Beautiful shot. I have to smile at its startled expression. 😄
He wasn’t too pleased with me!
Lovely raptor shot. I have never seen any raptors in the trees in my backyard. Not even owls!!!!!
I often see them in the distance, soaring about, but it’s rare that they land long enough for me to grab my camera!
Nice captures and none of your other birds were harmed during filming! 😉
That’s good news indeed…though I confess, I was thinking it would be cool to have him swoop down and catch a mouse!
Great shots!
