It seems like the butterflies have been a bit slow to arrive this year, but perhaps the season has at last begun.
A Gulf Fritillary showed up in the Zinnia garden the other day, and although he didn’t strike a wide variety of poses, he did flit from flower…

…to flower…

…to flower, content to stick around for quite awhile.

I did manage to get a few of those awkward angled shots that make him look a bit like a bug-eyed alien…

…but no photos with his wings fully unfolded, where we could get a clear view of the pretty pattern on the topside.

Who knows, maybe he’ll hang around and I can get some of those pictures for another post.
Nice set of shots, Ive been chasing our butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies around for a few weeks now, changeable weather makes it harder
Hope your chase is successful!
Pouring rain recently so ……
Such a pretty fritillary, we get great spangled, but I think these are prettier.
When they are “freshly minted” they are so striking.
Lovely! I haven’t seen any yet this summer.
I’m hoping some Swallowtails show up soon too.
You have more pretty visitors than anyone I’ve seen.
They do seem to love the zinnia garden. It’s a mixed blessing that I can see it outside the window by my desk. Beautifully distracting.
A beauty! (Always love the front-end view of insects 😃.)
Great images of the Gulf Fritillary on the zinnias. They’ve been feasting on my zinnias for a while here in Coastal Georgia.
