Butterfly Season Begins

It seems like the butterflies have been a bit slow to arrive this year, but perhaps the season has at last begun.
A Gulf Fritillary showed up in the Zinnia garden the other day, and although he didn’t strike a wide variety of poses, he did flit from flower…

…to flower…

…to flower, content to stick around for quite awhile.

I did manage to get a few of those awkward angled shots that make him look a bit like a bug-eyed alien…

…but no photos with his wings fully unfolded, where we could get a clear view of the pretty pattern on the topside.

Who knows, maybe he’ll hang around and I can get some of those pictures for another post.

  1. Nice set of shots, Ive been chasing our butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies around for a few weeks now, changeable weather makes it harder

    1. They do seem to love the zinnia garden. It’s a mixed blessing that I can see it outside the window by my desk. Beautifully distracting.
