A Fall Favorite

The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is one of my absolute favorite birds that arrives to spend the fall and winter months.

I had seen this handsome fella popping in and out over the last week or so, but always when I didn’t have my camera handy. Thankfully, he has decided to stick around and showed up and gave me the chance to take some pictures while he was nibbling on Bark Butter from a dead Red Oak branch that I have “planted” in the backyard.

Then he flew over to another branch and munched some more before flying off into the woods.

I’m not sure why this guy’s presence makes my heart so happy, but it does – so I won’t question it, I’ll just enjoy him!

  1. Lovely shots. I see these guys very rarely in my little corner of Wisconsin but usually manage to snap a shot once a year. The pictures on your site are beautiful.
