Cold Weather WAR-blers

It’s funny, most of the year the area Pine Warblers are quite amiable, but once cold weather rolls around these little lovelies go from warblers to WAR-blers in a heartbeat!

Their favorite food is the Bark Butter that I lather on some backyard branches (probably because it is full of protein), and while some are busy gobbling…

…others are vigilantly guarding, just waiting for their chance to dive down and take over a feeding spot.

Often there are a half dozen or so all vying to get their share of the food.

I love when they strike their fighter pilot pose!

The warblers prefer when I spread the Bark Butter somewhere they can perch and munch…

…but they are also quite adept at grabbing in-flight food from the branch I put out mostly for the woodpeckers.

It’s funny when you see one duck down to avoid getting swooped off the branch.

The cold weather definitely brings out the “war” in warblers, which in turn, brings me out with my camera!
