Mid-Air Snares

I’ve posted pictures of Phoebe’s in action in the past, but watching these acrobatic beauties never gets old to me, so I’m hoping it doesn’t get old to you either!

The other day I one of these lovely birds perched near some of the recently refilled Bark Butter branches.

I wasn’t sure which location she (or maybe, he) was going to choose, but thankfully I guessed right and was able to get several shots of her gracefully grabbing some food with her mid-air snares.

Each time, she would return to her perch for a bit…

…and then dive back down for another portion.

I had so much fun taking her picture, and was quite grateful to get her in the frame as she really is rather rapid! She gives fast food a whole new meaning!

  1. Wonderful shots, Kathy! I just happened upon an Eastern Phoebe at Blackwater NWR (Maryland) a couple weeks ago and got so excited! They mostly migrate down to your way. (And, yes, I got photos woot!)

  2. The photo of the Phoebes on the perch with bark butter on her nose gives me the giggles! Now someone has to make some strawberry jam to stick on trees too. The Phoebes series looks so happy to find such a treat. Excellent photography to warm my chilly day! Thank you 😊
