Our dashing male Bluebird has been whole-heartedly wooing and pursuing his female counterpart!
It is fascinating (and downright fun!) to watch his attempts to win the fair maiden!
Sometimes he sits and serenades her with song…

…sometimes he takes her on a house hunting adventure…

…and sometimes he just flutters his wings flirtatiously!

He follows her all around the yard, striking one impressive pose…

…after another…

…after another!

Meanwhile, she (pictured below) has been giving him just enough encouragement to keep him engaged, while still managing to remain a wee bit coy.

Out of all his antics, the funniest by far is when he gets to wildly twirling his wings to capture her attention.

Sometimes it’s just a bit of one wing action, but other times he puts several moves together and it looks like a backyard line dance, as you can see in the next set of shots!

I’m hoping she won’t hold out too long because I’d really love to have some baby Bluebirds posing in the near future. Let’s all wish him luck, shall we?!
Beautiful. Lovely post x
Thank you!
OMG–these are such a delight.
Here, it’s the season of the Northern Flicker landing on our chimney’s metal vent and drilling on it, then shrieking his rather demanding sirensong for whichever female might be wooed by it, then drilling again, drilling again, then diving off to do the same at our neighbour’s, then the house next to theirs….yikes. Enough already.
Where IS she? Enough of the coy–just go to him.
GO TO HIM.
I’ve been telling her the same thing!
Great sequence of amorous advances. 🙂 I hope a female here accepts one of the houses we have on offer. He entreats, but she decides!
He’s the one with the fancy feathers; she has no business being such a diva. 😀
Indeed!
He looks pretty handsome to me! 😉😍 Lovely shots! She’s very pretty as well.
He’s definitely a keeper!
Love the house hunting adventure… photo. Sweet home tweet home.
And the line dancing is completely hilarious!
You will soon be watching the hoochie caboochie 🤭
😂
We have spotted our first eastern bluebird here in the Driftless area of Wisconsin this very week! He’s been hovering at his reflection in our sunroom’s window, captivating our two cats. Thankfully he doesn’t charge, just hover, but I assume he sees his reflection as a rival. We’ve seen him land on our front porch railing and sing, and also land on the very top of the pine tree where we feed the birds, again singing his heart out. I haven’t spotted a female yet, but I sure hope he finds one.
I hope there are bluebird babies in your near future!
