We have had A LOT of deer roaming about the yard this summer – more than I ever remember having before!
They love to hang out in our side yard, an place that gives them easy access to a connected wooded area in case they need to make a quick get away.
We have some lovely does that are now regulars…
…and several spunky fawns. The three pictures below are of a set of twins that stop by every day now. First, a shot of them together.
And now a solo of each.
What’s funny is that even though they look alike, they have such different personalities!
This slightly older fawn has also been stopping in each day.
The deer, both does and fawns alike, mostly nibble on whatever greenery is within reach, though one of the fawns still persists in trying to steal a snack from Mama.
Since these beauties have clearly determined that our yard is a fine place to dine, I decided to add a little corn to the menu – not enough to disrupt their digestion or make them dependent on the supply, but hopefully enough to entice them to come and pose for some pictures!
Hubby dragged a few logs over for me, and, “Voila!” – instead feeding location!
I am having such fun watching my daily doe(s) of deer. I guess this backyard birdnerd now has a side yard deer herd!

Points for the title! It’s been a banner year for deer for us as well. We do have a bit of a problem with a young buck who believes we put bird food out for him. Probably the last thing I need to do is get him a bit of corn!
I must confess, I was rather pleased with the title myself!
Aren’t they fun to watch! Every year we have at least one mom and baby visit our yard. This year I had a mom and baby and then they disappeared for most of the summer. This week two moms and their offspring arrived for a frolic in the yard. The babies eat just about everything. I think they’re tasting stuff to see what they like. One year they ate the tops off all our tomato plants. I can’t imagine THAT tasted great! Your photos are beautiful.
They really are fun to watch. The other day, one of the fawns was playing chase with a squirrel in the front yard. I don’t think the squirrel was a willing participant in the game!
