Whenever I head outside with my camera, I always have a sense of anticipation, wondering what bird is going to make an appearance.
This morning, a Purple Finch surprised me with a visit.

He only stayed for a moment or two, but a glimpse of his beauty was a wonderful way to start the day.

On occasion, I have been known to give a bird a nickname, and I thought about calling this fellow “Prince” – not only because his raspberry tones are the color of royalty, but also because this purple fellow arrived just after the rain ended…and when you pair purple with rain…well…you get the Artist Formerly Known As…

Anyway, you get the picture. For now though, we’ll hold off on the official nicknaming, but if he shows up again tomorrow, “Prince” it is!
No finches here this time of year and the ones we usually see are the gold finches. Beautiful photos.
I have seen a female pop up in my Georgia birding patch, but hope for a colorful cranberry male like yours! William
I hope one pays you a visit soon!
