I love Ruby-crowned Kinglets! With their white eye-rings, their spindly legs, and their constant quirky twitchiness, they remind me of an itty bitty cartoon character!

This little guy showed up in the backyard the other day, clearly wanting a drink or a dip in the fountain.

He didn’t sit still for a second though!

Just when I thought I had him in focus, he would dart down toward the water…

…and then quickly fly off again.

It took awhile, but eventually he got brave enough to venture down to the water for a quick sip and a brief splash.

Concealed beneath his head feathers is a ruby-red crown that I only managed to catch a fleeting glimpse of. I was hoping he would flare it out for us while bathing, but alas, I think he was reluctant to reveal his royalty around the paparazzi!
I love kinglets, too, Kathy, and you did an excellent job of capturing the flitting beauty of this one.
Thank you!
I have to admit that the pictures are great and they are really not easy to photograph because of their constant movements.
In my area live kinglets: Regulus regulus and Regulus ignicapilla.
Both are special. It’s impossible not to hear them. It’s really hard for me to single out birds by beauty, but they are like little gems among the treetops.
They are indeed gems among the treetops! What area of the world do you call home?
Croatia – Europe.
Super sweet! Great shots!!
Thank you!
