An Unusually Orderly Octet

When I was out on the back deck the other day, a group of eight Robins showed up to enjoy the fountain. Now these birds can be rather rowdy at times, so ( as the title suggests), I was surprised to find that this was an usually orderly octet!

One of the birds quickly laid claim to the upper birdbath that sits at the top level of the fountain…

…while another patiently perched on a nearby rock, enjoying a bit of the spray while waiting its turn.

Others perched on branches close to the water, watching and waiting for their chance for a bath.

Once bather number one left the water, the next in line wasted no time hopping right on in.

And then, you guessed it, as soon as he left, whoever was next showed up for his turn.

Eventually, they discovered that there was a whole fountain full of water just begging to be bathed in, not just the one birdbath, and several made their way to another section to begin splashing.

And of course, no bath is complete without a feather drying session!

I have to say, this group of well-behaved bathers was the picture of patience.
