A Delightful Dusting

I awoke this mid-March morning to a delightful dusting of snow covering the backyard.
Well, I thought it was delightful…

…the Bluebirds, on the other hand, begged to differ. They seemed a bit disgruntled over the wintry weather.

Other birds seemed curious…

…and some just looked plain old cold!

My two favorite visitors of the morning were this male Towhee (because they are beautiful birds that rarely venture from the front yard shrubs to the wooded backyard)…

…and this male Red-bellied Woodpecker. I thought his crimson crown looked so vibrant against the backdrop of the grey skies.

After giving the area a thorough glance, he flew off to another perch.

Then he glanced around again…

…and finally made his way over to the Bark Butter branch.

Once he had scooped up a portion, he spread his wings and flew away, leaving a trail of snow dust in his wake.

What a lovely way to say farewell to winter.

  1. Lovely photos, Kathy. We had a lot of rain last night and then sleet in the morning, then came the snow dusting. Today was a very cold day. 🙂
