Confession – The Mourning Dove doesn’t appear on my top ten list of favorite backyard birds. It doesn’t even show up on the top twenty or thirty list…but it does come in #29 in the April Thirty-Bird Challenge!
I know these birds are a symbol of peace, but mine tend to be the bossy, bickering sort. Oh, they get along with each other at times, but when they are pekish…well, they are peck-ish!
I do have to admit that although I don’t love their behavior, they are rather beautiful. It almost looks like they’re modeling a little Maybelline.
Only one bird left and the challenge will be complete. Spoiler – I’ve already got the pictures and just need to write the post. Any guesses on which bird it will be?

I do love their coloring– I painted my hallway and stairs inspired by that desert blush color. 🙂

They are usually late to the feeder around here, and pretty slow. One got taken out by a hawk last Sunday. Lots of fathers and other stuff at the scene.
