When I was outside yesterday afternoon, a blur of buttery yellow caught my eye, flashing in the tree tops. I scurried inside to grab my camera, and, in no time at all, a Great-crested Flycatcher flew down to a nearby perch.

These birds are constantly scanning the area for unsuspecting insects, so most of the pictures I got had him (or her) tilting his head to look for his next meal.

After sitting for a moment or two, he launched off…

…and landed on another perch to continue perusing the area.

And eventually, he flew back up to the tree tops.

These birds aren’t the flashiest, but I still think they are truly lovely in their greys and yellows. And besides their beauty, they are just plain fascinating to watch!
What a beautiful little bird Kathy, flycatchers are such cute birds.
They really are lovely!
🤩
🤩
Are they about the size of a goldfinch but slimmer?
More like the size of a Cardinal.
We occasionally have flycatchers here. Not this type with the yellow belly though. Fun to see! I especially love the launched photograph!! ❤️
Wonderful captures, with him looking so active, and you sticking right with him. Well done!
👏🏼
Indeed, very nice images and shared information.
What a beautiful bird.
Even prettier in person!
