Travel snacks!
I mean, really, who doesn’t love travel snacks?!
For hubby and I, whenever we embark on a road trip (usually to see our grandgirlies) our must have munchies are pretzel rods and Nutter Butters!
Well, do you know who else loves travel snacks? The young Rose-breasted Grosbeaks that have been stopping by mid-migration to fuel up for the remainder of their journey.

They’ve been filling up on seed, but they have also been taking advantage of the fountain and helping themselves to some leisurely sips…

…and some vigorous dips!

Juvenile males look a whole lot like their mamas, pictured below…

…but if you look back through the photos, you can tell these are young males by the hint of blush brushed across their breast and by the bright red feathers tucked beneath their wings. The females have creamy, speckled breast feathers and patches of bright yellow beneath their wings. In about two years these fellas will sport the bold black and white feathers and the bright red patch of their daddies, but for now they look a whole lot like their mamas!
I love when they pause between splashes and give me a few poses!

These birds only make a pit-stop here for a few days of rest and refreshment before heading farther south, but as long as they’re here, I’ll aim to keep a steady supply of travel snacks ready for them to enjoy!
Hey, just out of curiosity, do you have a favorite car snack you like to munch on over the miles?
Mmmm. Pretzel sticks
